  1. Some days I need the music and some days I need the lyrics x

    Music feeling

    I don’t understand people who don’t listen to music…

    How do they survive?

    Are they even human?

I just can’t function without music, from the minute I wake up until the minute I go to bed there is always something playing in the background. Some days I need the music and some days I need the lyrics… Some days I can’t get the words out to describe how I’m feeling, but I can always find a song that does!

I saw this list and I thought I’d give it a go, if nothing else it’ll create a pretty cool playlist (which you can listen to here on Spotify if you so choose). Some are here because they’re just good songs and don’t require any explanation, other songs require a little bit of an explanation in order to understand what they mean to me.

    • 1: A song you like with a colour in the title

    Sonata Arctica – Black Sheep

I think I first discovered this band in the early 2000s on Headbangers Ball (remember that?). Had to pick Black Sheep because that’s me 😊

    • 2: A song you like with a number in the title

    Ghost – Year Zero

Pretty self explanatory, just a catchy tune from Ghost, are you even singing if you don’t ‘sing’ the guitar solo too?

    • 3: A song that reminds you of summertime

    Korpiklaani – Let’s Drink

It’s the summer of 2007, I’ve left a violent relationship, I’m finally free of my old life and living my best life in my little top floor apartment. This song brings back memories of standing on the balcony, Lambrini in a teacup with Kelly, and turning the volume up loud getting ready for a night out at the Wendyhouse!

    • 4: A song that reminds you of someone you would rather forget about

    Sponge – Plowed

Ahh it’s 1999 – the one who got away… Sunday days spent waiting for a phonecall… Tragic haha…

    • 5: A song that needs to be played LOUD

Mindless Self Indulgence – Shut Me Up

The song that gets me to the dancefloor everytime… Peeing faster when it came on during a trip to the loo!

    • 6: A5d879d72a6a9bbabf11cb26c82ad95a4 song that makes you want to dance

QFX – Children of the Night

    • 7: A song to drive to

Ghost – Call Me Little Sunshine

    • 8: A song about drugs or alcohol

    Korpiklaani – Wooden Pints

    • 9: A song that makes you happy

    The Killers – Mr Brightside

Is there anyone out there who this song doesn’t make happy?

    • 10: A song that makes you sad

    Within Temptation – Our Farewell

Right from the first few notes – oooof!

    • 11: A song that you never get tired of

    Ghost – Dance Macabre (remix)

Listen to it, you’ll see why. This remix is everything… Almost like a satanic ABBA haha!

    • 12: A song from your preteen years

    4 Non Blondes – What’s Up

    • 13: One of your favourite 80’s songs

Communards – Don’t Leave Me this Way

    • 14: A song that you would love played at your wedding

Poison – Every Rose Has It’s Thorn

Otto had it at his wedding on The Simpsons so why not?

    • 15: A song that is a cover by another artist

    Turisas – Rasputin

I love Boney M, I love ‘battle’ metal… This is one of THE best cover songs to ever exist – even better live!

    • 16: One of your favourite classical songs

    Therion – O Fortuna

This song is pretty metal on it’s own, but this version blows me away!

    • 17: A song that would sing a duet with on karaoke

Meatloaf – Paradise By The Dashboard Light

Ahh this takes me back to the late 90’s, underage drinking and going to karaoke with my work friends… And yes I tried to sing both parts haha.

So many awesome memories from this time!

    • 18: A song from the year that you were born

    OMD – Enola Gay

    • 19: A song that makes you think about life

Nightwish – The Greatest Show on Earth

Have you heard it? Wow it might be 24 minutes long but don’t let that put you off… I think this may top as my most favourite Nightwish song ever! So many elements to it, so much feeling. It is quite literally THE song about life – evolution – right from the big bang… We are one, we are a universe!c4ad1c7e35912d869ce595b644fcb10d

    • 20: A song that has many meanings to you

    Sonata Arctica – Don’t Say a Word

    • 21: A favourite song with a person’s name in the title

    Within Temptation - Sinead

    • 22: A song that moves you forward

Amon Amarth – The Pursuit of Vikings

You could pretty much insert any Amon Amarth song here… When I’m lacking motivation they drive me to keep going.

    • 23: A song that you think everybody should listen to

The Hu – Yuve Yuve Yu

I mean just listen to it, you’ll see why – so much fun x

    • 24: A song by a band you wish were still together

Him – Wings of a Butterfly

Going right back to 2007 again and celebrating my freedom and being able to listen to bands without accusation of fancying the guys in them (jeeze I’ve just been reminded that that really happened, but it did). These are a band I was always gutted I didn’t get to see live… I did have a giant poster in my bathroom though for some reason :D

    • 25: A song by an artist no longer living

Meatloaf – Bat Out of Hell

I always had a soft spot for Meatloaf, I’m gutted I never got to see him perform live…

    • 26: A song that makes you want to fall in love

    Extreme – More than Words

I remember being 11/12 and hearing this and thinking ‘wow, imagine being so in love and someone loving you so much too…’ 30 years later I’m still thinking the same lol. It’s ok though, now I can accept I’m unlovable and words are just lies…

    • 27: A song that breaks your heart

The Veronicas – You Ruin Me

This song just hits different when you’ve lived it… Tears everytime!

    • 28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love

Nightwish (Marko Hietala) – While Your Lips Are Still Red

You know when you find that song that is just ‘sex’ for want of a better word… This is it! Absolutely beautiful… He has such a unique sound, his voice is everything (I mean Marko’s everything is everything but you know…) <3

    • 29: A song that you remember from your childhood

    Ram Jam – Black Betty

Growing up I loved this song, I used to play it from my dad’s vinyl collection all the time. I was convinced it was about a woman… I only found out a few years ago it’s about a gun – gutted!

    • 30: A song that reminds you of yourself

    Fleetwood Mac – Gypsyc158ac882bc2c0bd8299ae89e7e53bbb

This song got me through some tough times 4 years ago, I feel like it’s the soundtrack to my life now though (my children would roll their eyes and agree). I find it empowering! Stevie Nicks is a Goddess <3

‘To the gypsy that remains, faces freedom with a little fear. I have no fear, I have only love.’– My husband had just left me after 10 years, I was pregnant, but I was free, all insecurities I had disappeared. I had no fear anymore, I was alone with 6 children but I had love and that was enough to keep me strong.

‘…the child was enough, enough for me to love…’ – The child was enough for me to love, I knew I was going to be strong enough to raise him alone and I am… I wouldn’t change it for the world x

‘She is dancing away from you now, she was just a wish. She was just a wish, and her memory is all that is left for you now…’– SHE is the old me, I have the memories of the old me but I’m not the same person I was 4 years ago… She was just a wish…

  2. Getting to know me - 15 Questions

    Posted on

    Getting to know me…

I’ve been meaning to start my blog for ages, but I never really knew where to start, then I came across these 15 questions on Pinterest…

    1. Do you have any nicknames?Mum with 2 oldest daughters
Just Lynz, nothing exciting here, I have been called 'That Socksy Lady!' out and about though...

    2. Are you named after anyone?
My dad told me I was named after the 70’s singer Lynsey de Paul, I can’t say I know any of her music though. He always told me my middle name was after one of Henry VIII's wives though I think he was just making up stories at that point (Catherine).

    3. Do you have any siblings?
I do, I have twin sisters Amy and Wendy who are 5 years younger than me.

    4. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a little nowhere town called Heckmondwike in West Yorkshire. I passed the 11+ and went to Heckmondwike Grammar School

    5. What were your favourite subjects at school?
Biology, Physics and Art – even though I left with a D for my art GCSE. My art teacher, Mrs King, was so old fashioned in her teaching, she wanted me to draw fluffy bunnies and hands and I wanted to draw gothic churches and graveyards haha… Even now I don’t think the D was a justified result!

    6. Where did you go to college?
Dewsbury College in West Yorkshire where I did my BTec National Diploma in Childhood Studies. It wasn’t what I wanted to do, initially I wanted to be a funeral director, but school steered me away from that due to my age. I think their theory was that just as people are always dying, people are always being born…

    7. What was your first job out of school?
Back in 1996 when I left school I had a student job at Morrisons Supermarket working on the salad bar. The uniform will forever haunt me with the nylon overalls, tabard and hair net – very sexy haha... There is one photo in existence I'll have to find it!

    8. What kind of music do you like? First and foremost rock and metal, but I have a pretty eclectic music taste. In any one session I can go between happy hardcore and death metal with a little Mongolian throat music thrown in. You can follow me on Spotify here.

    9. What’s one hobby that you’d like to take up?
Art, I’d love to be able to draw and paint, sadly whatever I do resembles a toddlers best work at nursery!

    10. What’s the biggest project on your to-do list right now?
At the moment I’m just waiting for a beautiful fabric delivery so I can work on my side project, The Nameless Dolls. I’m planning on getting them made and ready for sale by Halloween!

    11. Do you have any irrational fears?
I have 2 phobias – needles and aliens – I wouldn’t say the needles was irrational, but seeing as I work with them for a living it's kind of bizarre, the fear comes from some serious medical trauma which left me with PTSD (see Q13), but the aliens are definitely irrational, they’re not even forced to exist haha…

    12. Have you ever travelled outside the country? If so, where?
Yep, I went to Ibiza when I was 26 – urghh. It was too hot, I don’t cope well in the sun, it makes me miserable, plus flying is just so unnatural you will never get me on a plane ever again. If I was ever to leave the country again it would be by boat!

    13. Have you ever nearly died?
Yes, a few times! First when I was 10 years old, I got hit by a HGV crossing a road, fortunately I was tall for my age, and it broke every bone in my arm and not my head. Secondly, I got sepsis and MRSA back when I was 20, I spent over 6 weeks in hospital gravely ill, in and out of consciousness, on morphine. When I came out, I discovered I was 12 weeks pregnant with Lorna!

Kids posing by the Eric Morecambe statue14. Do you have any children? I do indeed, I am a very proud single mum of 6 awesome (and very different) children between the ages of 3 and 20. Sadly we lost a little boy in 2015 who we named Rowan. He will always be with us...

    15. Do you have any hobbies and interests?
A few…. I’m a bit of a geek really. In my downtime I play both video and board games. The kids are really into Minecraft, so we play that a lot. I’m all about Marvel too, especially Deadpool and Venom and most things sci-fi or fantasy. I also have an interest in anything occult and supernatural and I use various tools for divination.

Stack of board games, including Qwirkle, Tsuro, Uno and Colour Brain

    Bonus Question - What’s next?
Next, I’m heading into the 2nd year of my degree (after passing my 1st year with a DISTINCTION - woop woop), I’m studying a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Counselling through OU part time, as well as working on my business and raising my family. I have a few things coming up at Socksy Love before the end of the year, but first I want to put some time into my dolls project. I’m just an all-round busy lady building my little empire and trying to be the best role model I can for the kids.
